Volunteer Portraits, Cancer, Cancer Children, Serving West Linn & the greater Portland, Oregon communities.
For many years, I have volunteered for multiple non profit organizations to bring portraiture to those battling a life threatening diagnosis. Not often something I talk about publicly, but recently it felt the time was right to be more active in letting my client base know this is part of her work.
It’s been a passion that I have been blessed to connect with many people going through the extreme circumstances and a difficult journey. I am realizing as time goes on, my passion for creating and for helping others also does. Ironically I just wrote about this in my newsletter last year, and the very next day to a friend was diagnosed with cancer. It all felt very synchronous.
It’s a service, it’s a gift, and it’s life lasting. I have a passion and heart for this work. To bring a bit of joy into the lives of others going through a tough time is special. The deed of helping others by finding comfort in images we create brings me great satisfaction.
Instead of volunteering for other organizations, I’ve decided to continue to do the work on my own. There were a lot of hoops to jump when volunteering for others and things I didn’t agree with, and an added complexity for me, that didn’t need to be. I will continue to work for different volunteer organizations, but I will predominately do this work on my own.
If you have friends or family fighting cancer and would like to nominate them for a complimentary session and images, please EMAIL me their name, contact information (email and phone if possible), and as much about their story as possible with any pertinent information. I will try to coordinate to create something special for them to treasure. The sessions may take place in their home, a local park, at the hospital, or my studio. I work to make the sessions fun and as easy as possible.
My voice has become a much stronger as time has gone on…I am very proud of this work and absolutely love gifting clients a bit of joy.
